MISSION STATEMENT
To benefit the pipeline industry by establishing, maintaining and promoting specifications and practices to be used as standards for the sharing of information in the pipeline simulation community.
SCOPE
The PSIG Standards Committee is a standing committee of the Pipeline Simulation Interest Group that has been formed to address the opportunities
for standardization within the pipeline simulation industry. Standardization generally refers to influencing industry practices through creation of
formal standards and recommended practices as well as identification of best practices within the industry. Standardization opportunities that
will be considered will span simulation processes, data interchange and software design and integration.
OBJECTIVES
The objectives and goals of the PSIG Standards Committee can be summarized
as:
- Create an awareness of the case for standardization within the pipeline simulation industry.
- Solicit opportunities for standardization within the pipeline simulation industry.
- Evaluate identified standardization opportunities and select those that provide the highest value to the broadest cross section of the pipeline simulation industry.
- Create, document, communicate and distribute standards and recommended practices.
MAJOR ACTIVITIES
In order to achieve its stated objectives, the Standards Committee will:
- Maximize the involvement and input of PSIG membership
- Utilize the expertise of the vendor community to the maximum extent possible.
- Maintain and manage a portfolio of standards that span the development horizon.
- Create and publish standards and recommended practices for use in the Pipeline Simulation community.
- Develop, effect and manage a Communication Plan.
- Communicate and promote Committee activities and products.
STRATEGIES
The specific strategies or activities that will ensure the Standards
Committees objectives will be met include:

of information, experiences and ideas.
- Soliciting ideas and opportunities through surveys and questionnaires
of PSIG members including operating companies, vendors and consultants.
- Provide a "safe haven" for collaboration.
- Select standards opportunities to leverage synergies.
- Creation and publication of standards and recommended practices for
use in the Pipeline Simulation community.
- Maximize the use of web-based communications.
